CLG Jewelry Designs is one-of-a-kind jewelry, hand fabricated by Cynthia L. Green in her workshop in Northern, NV. Her sterling silver designs are inspired by Mother Nature and can be easily identified with fluttering silver petals and an unexpected, contemporary design.
Floral-shaped pieces are handcrafted with unique and colorful stones including Labradorite, Opals, Turquoise, Pearls, or Fossils often paired with various gemstones or diamonds. The stones are hand picked by Cynthia and purchased directly from lapidary artists in CA, TX, Utah, AZ, Australia and NV, including the Elquist Family (of Battle Mountain "Blue Gem" Turquoise in Lander County, NV).
Most lapidaries are independent miners and diggers themselves; making the selection process an intimate experience in an effort to find the perfect stone for her designs.
The creative process starts with a sketch of Cynthia’s vision, then is transferred to flat sterling silver sheet. The shapes are cut with a fine jewelers saw, textured with chasing hammers, misc. objects and stamps, then soldered in layers for more dimension. After the petals are molded to give a flutter affect, each piece is sculpted with various buffing wheels and papers, then tumbled for an hour before adding patina and setting the stones.
The metal used is eco-friendly, recycled .925 sterling silver purchased from suppliers in the US, and/or a premium type of recycled sterling called Argentium™. (Argentium™ is 93% fine silver with less copper in its alloy, giving it a brighter color and more tarnish resistance.) Pieces made with Argentium™ are marked with a winged Pegasus stamp on the back. For an occasional accent, 14k and 18k gold may also be used, and more gold pieces will be introduced soon!
Cynthia is a member of Ethical Metalsmiths and the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) community who strives to use earth-friendly practices during the fabrication process, starting with understanding where and how the stones are mined and using the current best-practices and safest products available.
Cynthia declares herself as a “self-taught” metalsmith, supplemented by various technical courses taken at local art academies in southern California. Her background also includes an Assoc. Arts degree in graphic arts from the Art Institute of Houston (AIH), and early work in advertising as a young adult. Since then, her career has moved into the healthcare and biotech industry, making her craft an important “creative outlet” - with plans to soon retire and make it a full-time job!
